The Network of Women Journalists Against GBV – Benin (RFJ-VBG) Community brings together women journalists committed to strengthening media accountability, advancing survivor-centered reporting, and promoting justice for victims of gender-based violence. While Benin has legal frameworks to protect women, their implementation remains limited, allowing impunity and silencing survivors. This Community works to close that gap through advocacy, ethical journalism, and innovation in media practice.
Its roadmap focuses on structuring a strong national network, building the capacities of women journalists in GBV-sensitive reporting, and amplifying survivor voices through responsible storytelling. The Community also aims to establish a psychological and legal support unit for journalists, create an incubator for media innovation on GBV, and develop partnerships with NGOs, state institutions, and allied media actors. Together, they seek to transform the media’s role from observation to active contribution in ending GBV in Benin.
