Call for Pitches: Amplifying Women’s Voices: Gender-Angled Stories in Africa

Are you a passionate African woman journalist with a nose for untold stories and untapped story angles? Do you believe in the power of the media to drive change and amplify women’s voices? We invite you to pitch compelling gender-focused stories that delve deep into the heart of issues affecting women across the continent.

About the Opportunity:

We seek unique and innovative pitches from African women journalists – whether freelance, independent, or affiliated with a media organization – ready to explore critical gender issues with resounding depth, creativity, and impactful storytelling.

What We’re Looking For:

We encourage pitches that:

  • Offer unique angles: Surprise us with fresh perspectives and untold narratives. Think outside the box and challenge conventional wisdom.
  • Demonstrate in-depth reporting: Go beyond the surface and provide comprehensive analysis backed by thorough research and credible sources.
  • Are constructive and balanced yet show diversity and inclusion(think Pan-African): While highlighting challenges, explore solutions and celebrate positive change.
  • Embrace strong long-form storytelling that also utilizes infographics and impactful social media content.

Submission Requirements:

Each applicant should submit two (2) story pitches, along with the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Cover Letter: Highlighting your experience, expertise in gender reporting, and motivation for this opportunity.
  • Portfolio Links: Showcase your previous work, demonstrating your storytelling skills and journalistic integrity.

Pitches should include:

  • A clear and concise headline: Capturing the essence of your story.
  • A brief synopsis (not more than 200 words): Outline the main narrative and its significance.
  • A detailed treatment: Explain your approach, proposed sources, potential challenges, and anticipated impact.
  • Proposed format and multimedia elements: Specify the storytelling format(s) you intend to use and how you will incorporate multimedia elements.
