African Women in Media (AWiM) invites skilled women journalists across Africa to pitch long-form, multimedia stories for our Editorial Fellowship on Gendered Migration Reporting.
About the Opportunity
This initiative seeks to strengthen news coverage on migration and free movement in Africa, ensuring that gendered perspectives—often overlooked—are placed at the forefront. Selected journalists will receive:

✅ Fellowship recognition within AWiM’s growing network of media professionals
Thematic Focus
We seek compelling, in-depth, balanced stories that:
- Explore the gendered impact of migration and free movement WITHIN Africa
- Share the lived experiences of African women migrants
- Examine the policies and infrastructure, challenges and opportunities surrounding intra-African migration for diverse reasons including labour, climate change, political instability and more.
Story Format & Multimedia Requirements
All selected stories must be long-form features or investigative projects and include at least three of the following multimedia elements:
🎥 Video/documentary clips
🎙️ Podcasts/audio reports
📸 Photojournalism/visual storytelling
📊 Infographics/data visualizations
📲 Social media carousels or reels
Who Can Apply?
✔️ Experienced female journalists and media professionals, including writers, filmmakers, content creators, podcasters, and digital storytellers (minimum 3 years of professional experience)
✔️ Female storytellers with a track record in investigative, data, or feature journalism
✔️ Female journalists working in or covering Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire (Priority will be given to stories from or about these countries, but pitches from across Africa are welcome and encouraged)
✔️ Cross-border collaboration projects are encouraged

Important Notes
- This is a paid opportunity (€950 per project), but not a full-time position or a grant.
- The selected journalists will retain publishing rights and may publish in their own media outlets.
